Stay Safe Campaign
The R2P Alliance ran the Stay Safe Campaign throughout December 2020.
The Campaign was developed to promote safe work practices, to ensure that everyone working on the R2P Project made it home safe for the holidays. Typically around this time of year is when incidents can occur, as people may become distracted by the upcoming holiday period.
The Campaign helped all staff to remain alert and aware of the potential hazards around the construction areas.
Each day at the four site compound pre-start meetings, the R2P Alliance Stay Safe champions discussed a different safety topic. Some of the topics included:
- Looking out for your work mates;
- Fatigue - what is it and how we manage it;
- Environment - keeping our site clean;
- Being respectful of the community we work in; and
- Making the site areas safe for the holidays.
After the safety discussions, Safe Spine exercises were undertaken to get everyone moving, before heading out to their work areas for the day.
The team performed lunges, squats, reached for the sky and touched their toes (or got as close to their toes as they could!). Some instructors even provided music to get the staff motivated and moving. Safe Spine is extremely popular and will continue at pre-start meetings for the duration of the R2P Project.
Supervisors and managers are provided with nomination forms to submit each Thursday, recognising people for their stand-out safe work behaviour. The Stay Safe champions selected up to four winners each week and prizes were awarded each Friday at pre-start meetings.
Supervisors and managers were also provided with raffle tickets to award to anyone displaying great safety behaviour. The raffle tickets went into a draw to win one of the major 23 prizes at the end of the Campaign.
